Turn your commitment to the planet into better business choices

For 60 percent of global consumers, sustainability is an important factor when making purchasing decisions, according to the Global Sustainability Study 2021. It is a statistic backed up by Deloitte’s latest survey, showing that one in three consumers have stopped purchasing certain brands or products over ethical or sustainability concerns.

These figures reflect how environmentally conscious consumers are pushing businesses to create innovative and sustainable solutions that protect both people and planet. And businesses are answering the call by working towards net-zero emissions and other environmental goals.

Finding a path to a sustainable future is not just the responsible thing to do, it also brings benefits to your business, boosting your reputation and profitability, lowering costs, and even increasing production.

Electrolux Professional is firmly committed to building a greener future. We aim to be a carbon neutral company by 2030 and we follow the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to develop energy efficient appliances and solutions, so our customers can run sustainable operations that reduce their environmental impact and take care of their workforces.

Protecting our natural resources

Our natural resources are finite and precious, and maintaining a healthy ecosystem means balancing what we take from the planet and what we give back.

Innovative technologies can help, with designs that help reduce the water consumption of your cleaning appliances or lower your energy usage to lessen the pressure of fossil fuels.

Electrolux Professional is committed to designing water and energy efficient appliances that help preserve natural resources and protect the environment while still providing unbeatably high performance.

For example, our induction cooking system comes with a 90 percent energy efficiency level, reducing consumption by 60 percent compared to traditional electric tops, and by investing in washers in our Line 6000 collection, you can reduce water consumption by 40 percent, while automatic dosing systems mean you can also reduce running costs by 40 percent.

We also show the same dedication to sustainability in our own operations and processes by taking specific actions to minimize waste and ensuring that all of Europe’s major appliance manufacturing sites only use electricity from renewable sources.

Together as businesses, we can make a long-term commitment to protecting the environment’s natural resources by reducing water and energy consumption and this sustainable approach brings benefits for both the planet and your pocket.

Embracing the circular economy

The circular economy follows the three Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle) approach, extending lifecycles and reducing waste as much as possible. By committing to this sustainable economic model, you can significantly improve your business’s environmental impact and help create a greener future for all.

There are many simple ways to reduce unnecessary waste in your business or workplace. It can be as simple as turning off lights when not in use, carefully controlling stock, and ensuring efficient use of equipment and materials.

Waste water can be used to water plants, you can commit to reusable cutlery instead of disposable, and even removing trash can liners where possible can also make a difference. These small measures build up and can significantly reduce your business’ environmental footprint as well as lowering costs.

How sustainable solutions_img1

For people and the planet

It’s not just about looking after our planet. The UN’s SDG 3 calls for good health and well-being for all, and putting people first has always been Electrolux Professional’s top priority. We take great care to manufacture ergonomically designed, user-friendly appliances to protect your workers’ health, safety, and well-being and ensure complete peace of mind in the workplace.

Due to the hands-on nature of the hospitality industry, poorly designed products and appliances can cause serious problems for users. Because working in hospitality involves strenuous and repetitive actions like reaching and bending, pressure can be placed on particular stress points which can lead to discomfort and injury.

This can be detrimental to your worker’s health and well-being, significantly affect your business’s productivity, and eventually have an effect on your bottom line.

Our ergonomic experts focus on the interaction between people and appliances to ensure our equipment makes the required actions as comfortable and stress-free as possible. We want to ensure that your employees work in a safe and supportive environment and continue to perform to their best, increasing your business’s productivity and profits.

Our commitment

With the ever-growing need to protect the world from the worsening effects of climate change, and a shift in the way consumers are thinking about their environmental impact, it has never been more vital to develop innovative and sustainable business solutions.

The Global Sustainability Study found that more than one-third of consumers claiming they would pay more for sustainable brands and carbon neutral products, so committing to making a more positive contribution to the planet is the best business decision you can make right now.

By adopting a sustainable business approach, you will improve your brand image and reputation, lower business costs, increase productivity, and reduce your environmental impact for a cleaner, greener future.

Electrolux Professional is incredibly proud of its pledge to become a carbon neutral company by 2030, our continued commitment to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and our dedication to creating a brighter future for generations to come. Together, we can make a difference.

As we mark International Barista Day, take a look at the four ways companies are ensuring customers enjoy a high-quality coffee fix.

It seems the world can’t get enough of good coffee. The coffee machine market is set to grow by $8.85 billion during 2022-2026, increasing at an annual rate of 7.95 percent. It is not solely coffee shops producing high-quality coffee with high-tech machines and advanced equipment, but businesses across every sector – from hotels, restaurants and bars to stores, cinemas and offices.

As a result, the coffee machine industry has to adapt to this increased demand with a broad, ever-expanding range of solutions, from baristas’ favorite state-of-the-art espresso machines to efficient, easy-to-use options offering anyone great coffee with just the click of a button. So, in honor of International Barista Day, let’s explore some of the latest trends and innovations in the professional coffee machine industry.

Still 1

1 – Go for the grind

With the increase in the popularity of coffee, consumers’ tastes are also becoming more refined. Now, coffee drinkers like to know where, when and how their coffee is produced, preferring authentic, locally roasted coffee beans for fresher tasting, carefully crafted coffee.

Advanced grinding machines come with various grind settings (Turkish, Espresso, Fine, Coarse and more) to suit every palette, allowing complete control of the coffee you serve so that you can create the specific flavor profile you desire. They don’t just bring out the coffee beans’ unique aromatic flavor but also provide uniform grinds for the perfect cup every time.

Investing in a grinding machine also allows for companies to buy their choice of coffee beans, meaning you can buy from local roasters, secure an advantageous price and experiment with different beans and roasts.

For an efficient, powerful business solution, choose a coffee grinder and brewer all in one – these machines not only deliver excellent coffee results but save on space, time and money.

2 – Easy espresso

Espresso is fast becoming the most popular way to serve coffee in cafes and restaurants, with espresso machines enabling baristas worldwide to deliver delicious cups of coffee with their own unique flair.

Investing in a state-of-the-art commercial espresso machine, adaptable to different brewing systems, make it easy to create the perfect barista-quality coffee every time. Advanced technologies mean modern machines can come with automated processes, unmatched speed, simultaneous pours, and easy-to-use digital interfaces – solutions that are constantly evolving and upgrading to suit the needs of each business and the refined palates of consumers.

Electrolux Professional’s Aura Espresso Machines provide consistently high performances, with easy-to-use touchscreen interfaces and effortless operation thanks to their EASYLOCK system helping to lock and secure the portafilter. They also include optional DOSAMAT technology, which recognizes the size of the portafilter inserted and automatically doses the corresponding volume.

For a super-automatic, highly advanced professional coffee machine, Electrolux Professional’s Tango range not only boasts consistently unrivalled performance, but its Duo machine is one of the few models in the industry with the capacity to make four drinks simultaneously.

Commercial espresso machines are robust, long-lasting coffee solutions, perfectly merging quality and efficiency, and available at affordable prices for every business wishing to deliver excellent espresso coffee.

3 – The perfect pod

The global capsule (or pod) coffee machine market is set to increase by 12.8 percent between 2022 and 2028. Convenience is a high priority for many coffee consumers in our increasingly busy world. Single-serve capsule coffee is prepared in mere seconds, and machines are easy to use, require little cleaning and take up minimal space in the workplace.

There is also an incredible variety of pods to choose from to cater to every coffee taste – from strong, mild, and decaffeinated to flavored pods. Consistently delivering on delicious cups of coffee with ease, capsule machines give individuals the option to serve themselves the coffee of their choice at the push of a button.

Electrolux Professional’s PONY smoothly combines convenience and consistently delicious cups of coffee, making it the perfect pod or capsule professional coffee machine for your business. This robust, easy-to-use design even allows users to make up to four espresso cups simultaneously, the ideal solution for any busy workplace.

4 – Brilliant brews

Coffee is the most popular drink worldwide, with two billion cups enjoyed every day. This means more consumers are searching for consistent, high-quality brews. Recent years have seen an incredible variety of coffee creations, from whipped Dalgona coffee, which became a TikTok sensation, through to the health benefits of matcha lattes, colorful rainbow coffee designs and even a World Latte Art Championship.

But one of the most longstanding and popular ways to enjoy the drink is as brewed coffee, made by pouring hot water onto ground coffee beans before brewing. Its simplicity makes it perfect for any business, office, event or store. Coffee brewers provide an excellent flavor profile and lasting taste to ensure that everyone has access to fresh, delicious coffee throughout the day.

For years, Electrolux Professional has been working on a brewed coffee solution that delivers precise, high-volume brewing and consistently exceptional flavors so that businesses can serve high-quality coffee all day long.

The PrecisionBrew collection is the industry-leading result, winning innovation awards and delivering exceptional flavor with consistency and simplicity of use.

The PrecisionBrew maintains a hot temperature through a portable base, while the Encapsulair shuttle circulates heat, and Java-tate technology gently stirs the coffee for an exceptional, long-lasting taste. These innovative professional coffee machines also contain optional brew volumes to suit customer demand, maximizing savings and minimizing waste for the perfect cost-effective coffee solution for your business.

2086

Final thoughts

As we mark another International Barista Day, coffee is only becoming more established as the worldwide beverage of choice. Currently, around 500 billion cups of coffee are consumed worldwide every year, and its popularity shows no signs of slowing down.

The desire for quality coffee is universal – whether consumers visit specialist coffee shops with locally roasted coffee beans ground using top-quality coffee grinding machines or prefer the convenience of capsule coffee during their lunch break at work.

New technologies geared towards this demand mean innovative advances in the development of coffee machines, ensuring the production of exquisitely designed, top-quality professional coffee machines for every business and occasion.

Discover a new summer revenue stream with these new drinks options for your customers.

Give your cold drink dispensers the spotlight they deserve this summer. From fresh fruit juices to iced teas, keeping your customers refreshed can bring great business benefits in the summer months.

Whether you manage a bustling restaurant, bar or boutique hotel, there’s never a bad time to bring your cold beverage dispenser to offer new drinks solutions. Think refreshing iced teas and fruit juices all the way through to frozen margaritas, summer presents an opportunity to expand your drinks menu.

You can even add a theme to your drinks, offering a unique experience that will encourage people to try something new. Treat your customers to a laid-back Spanish-themed event complete with flamenco dancing, tapas plates, and ice-cold sangria. Alternatively, serve up a mouth-watering pineapple punch and invite guests to wear their favorite tropical attire for an exciting Hawaiian-themed bash. Or keep it simple with fresh homemade lemonade and a classic summer barbecue theme.

If you’re still looking for cold drink ideas, here are a few to add to your menu.

beverage-dispensers-image

Fruit juices

From fresh orange juice to strawberry punch, there are so many ways to enjoy a fresh fruit blend this summer.

There is a rainbow range of powders and syrups you can buy to flavor drinks and the bright colors swirling on a counter-top help attract attention from your customers. Or you can go homemade and mix your own drinks inspired by your creativity. This adds a craft element to your business and could tempt customers who don’t normally opt for flavored drinks.

Try delicious homemade lemonade. Simply add fresh lemon juice, some healthy fructose, and water to taste, then, keep it ice-cool in your cold drink dispenser, serving in pitchers filled with ice and lemon slices for decoration.

Hotel guests love a vitamin C boost in the morning, and it’s easy to create a fresh orange juice. For this recipe, blend the orange segments, adding a splash of lemon juice for added flavor until the juice is slightly pulpy. For a smooth finish, strain the remaining liquid until you have deliciously smooth orange juice. Pour into a cold beverage dispenser to keep it fresh and cool.

With an Electrolux Professional cold drink dispensers, you can choose the best size to suit your business. Each one comes with a cooling program, agitator to keep the mixing the drink and a locking lid, making it easy to make, mix and store your chosen beverage.

Alcoholic punches

Who doesn’t love an ice-cold summer cocktail? From sangria to pineapple punch, there’s no end to the mouth-watering cocktails (or mocktails) you can prepare for an event or simply as a fun extra that customers can order.

For a classic Spanish sangria, you mix orange juice, brandy, dry red wine (preferably a Spanish label) and sugar, adjusting the flavor as needed, then add it to your cold drink dispenser. Serve in pitchers with sliced fruit and plenty of ice to create a sweet summer cocktail. The fact the sangria is being mixed in a cold drink dispenser creates an experience for the customer and becomes a talking point that can tempt them to order.

Alternatively, you can add a quirky extra to your menu with a beverage dispenser that serves perfectly chilled cosmopolitan cocktails. A simple mix of vodka, cranberry, orange liqueur which the agitator will keep perfectly blended, you can offer it by the glass or even by the pitcher for summer evening drinks.

Just as the frozen margarita is a hit when customers see it swirling in a frozen granita dispenser, you can add the same fun factor to your choice of summer cocktails.

Iced tea & coffee

For coffee shops, there can often be a worry in the summer months that if you’re not serving ice creams and other extras, your sales could dip. But if you can offer iced teas and coffees alongside your regular menu, you can pick up extra sales from those looking for something a little more refreshing.

Herbal iced teas are not only bursting with flavor but can offer a range of health benefits, from anxiety reduction to improved digestion. Make an impact by serving pink hibiscus iced tea, also known as ‘agua de Jamaica’.

It’s easy to make by cold brewing cinnamon, ginger slices, and some healthy natural sweeteners, then stirring in the dried hibiscus flowers and letting rest for 20 minutes. Strain the liquid concentrate, add water and keep it cool in your cold drink dispenser. Simply serve with a slice of orange or lime.

prova

Southern USA-style sweet tea can easily be made by steeping black tea bags in cold water and adding sugar. Simply let it rest and then pour it into your cold drink dispenser for a refreshing drinks option with a USA twist. Or make batches of filter coffee and then serve them chilled as a refreshing caffeine hit – cold coffee is a hit in the summer months in the southern Mediterranean.

Professional cold beverage dispensers

A quality cold drink dispenser should be easy for staff to use and deliver consistently outstanding performance, for fresh, ice-cold drinks that last all day long.

Electrolux Professional cold beverage dispensers occupy less counter space, dispense liquid right down to the last drop and are easy to clean, making them an easy addition to your summer events. They are compact and secure, with interchangeable BPA-free transparent bowls featuring sealable locking lids for added hygiene and security against tampering.

They make the ultimate accessory for a restaurant, cafe, or hotel, offering diverse new drinks to be enjoyed, particularly in the summer months.

The importance of cleaning and maintenance

Electrolux Professional’s SkyLine ovens are self-cleaning ovens that reduce running costs by up to 15%*. By ensuring your combi oven is correctly used and maintained, you can increase its reliability, uptime, performance, and conformity to warranty conditions.

Regular cleaning operations also help keep your oven in mint condition and prevent future maintenance issues, as users will be able to identify potential repairs earlier on, preventing more significant damage and lengthier repairs down the road.

Each SkyLine oven features SkyClean, an in-built, automatic cleaning system. The integrated “Zero Lime” descaling system of the steam generator and eco-friendly Green Spirit Cycles reduce water, energy, and detergent consumption, lowering both business costs and environmental impact. These self-cleaning features make it easier than ever to guarantee your appliance’s long-term efficiency and uncompromising performance for years to come.

SkyClean automatic cleaning system

SkyClean built-in cleaning technology ensures that every part of the chamber is perfectly cleaned and sparkling without any food or grease residues. It relies on an easy-to-use, ergonomic touchscreen interface with clear instructions throughout the entire process. Simply decide between a solid or liquid clean depending on the intensity required, press the correct button, insert the necessary chemicals (as instructed on the screen), and wait until your oven is dirt-free and sparkling.

It is important to note that, when using the self-cleaning function, you should never leave accessories or trays inside the unit to reduce the risk of damage. Moreover, the ZeroLime automatic boiler descaling guarantees optimal performance and an extended life cycle over time, as water and chemicals enter the steam drain to keep SkyLine ovens performing to the very best of their ability. This runs automatically at every cleaning cycle, so there is no downtime, meaning huge advantages for the oven’s performance, operation, and longevity.

How to work towards a safer, greener future for all this World Water Day 2022.

World Water Day has been held on March 22 every year since 1993. It celebrates the life-giving water sources that many of us take for granted, while raising awareness of the two billion people living without clean or safe access to it.

One of the UN Sustainable Development Goals calls for universal access to safe water and sanitation by 2030, so it has never been more important for us to take concrete action to tackle the global water crisis.

The theme for World Water Day 2022 is groundwater – the water found underground in aquifers (porous rock), which can be extracted to the surface using pumps and wells. Groundwater supplies a large proportion of the water we use for drinking, sanitation, food production and industrial processes, but overuse is leading to the depletion of this vital resource.

As a result, the World Bank predicts that by 2025, two-thirds of the world’s population will run short of fresh drinking water. Reducing water consumption is a shared responsibility and, as a business, it’s important to have a strategy in place.

world-water-day-second_banner

How can businesses reduce water consumption?

To achieve universal access to safe water and sanitation by 2030, we need to drastically reduce our water consumption to protect and harness existing natural water resources without depleting them. So how can you reduce your business’ water consumption?

It begins with monitoring, knowing where you use water and where improvements can be made. Conduct regular assessments of water-consuming systems to ensure there are no leaks, and upgrade to modern, water-saving appliances where possible. You can also reduce wastage by having a clear water preservation policy, running appliances at full load only, and ensuring your staff is on the same page.

Reducing water waste through recycling and reusing is another way to make a positive change. Installing in your workplace modern water systems able to recycle wastewater to supply different needs, or installing aerated faucet heads onto your taps to reduce the water flow, are simple tips to make a real change.

Even more simply, you and your employees can implement water reuse practices such as using leftover water to irrigate indoor plants or outdoor green areas. These water-efficient solutions both protect natural water resources and help you to manage running business costs.

Electrolux Professional has an ambitious target to improve water consumption efficiency within dishwashing and laundry by 8% by 2025, which corresponds to an average life cycle water savings of around 8 billion liters of water. It’s going well so far with water consumption efficiency improved in products by 2.3% in 2021.

Advanced dishwashing solutions

As one of the appliances that uses the most water, dishwashers are a crucial part of any water-saving strategy, but hygiene cannot be sacrificed. The Electrolux Professional team listened to concerns from the hospitality industry and the result is the green&clean dishwashers line, entirely developed according to the market’s needs.

Such line includes the Multi Rinse Rack Type Dishwasher, which can clean a full rack of wares with just one glass of water (equivalent to 0.4 liters).

image001_tag

This result has been possible due to an intelligent water management during the washing cycle, which combines a cascade effect with a multiple stage filtration, reusing the rinse water twice during the cleaning process. A similar system has been implemented also on other models, with the Dual Rinse offering water consumption savings of more than 50% when compared to previous models.

In-depth research has calculated that these dishwashers can lead to business savings of up to € 730 a year when compared with an equivalent conventional machine. Here’s how:

Lower energy consumption

Reducing energy consumption isn’t just an eco-friendly solution but a cost-effective one. Because less water is used for rinsing, energy consumption drops by 25% when using Electrolux Professional’s green&clean dishwashers. So, you reduce your company’s expenses and your environmental impact all in one.

Lower water consumption

As we mark World Water Day, the conversation turns to how businesses can reduce water consumption. Modern eco-conscious dishwashers from Electrolux Professional use less water in the rinsing process, but also maintain a constant rinse pressure and temperature of 84° C, so impeccable washing performance and higher hygiene standards are not compromised.

Less detergent and rinse aid

Electrolux Professional dishwashers require less detergent and rinse aid, minimizing your operational costs further and boosting your green credentials. You can also choose our eco-friendly detergent and rinse aid range, chemicals with a low environmental impact, suitable for every kind of crockery.

Lower emissions

When you choose insulated appliances with double skin constructions, they emit far less heat, therefore keeping the environment cooler and noise levels to a minimum in the workplace, thus providing a better working environment for your team.

Every business is different

It’s important to choose the right dishwashing solution for your business, and with the excellent variety available on the market, it’s never been easier to find the perfect match. Along with improved eco credentials and water-saving technology, Electrolux Professional has developed specialist dishwashers for different businesses.

Among the glasswashers and undercounters range, the coffee-line is perfect for any bustling bars or cafes requiring a speedy, dynamic service, without any compromise on hygiene. For a more crystal-friendly solution, the compact but capacious and delicate wine-line range, will keep your glasses sparkling, while a high-performance XL undercounter is the ideal partner to wash large trays for pastry, bakery or pizza.

The green&clean dishwashers boast superior hygiene quality and innovative ergonomic designs, making them perfect for any workplace. They are sleek, modern, and compact machines that match design & reliability, guaranteeing long-lasting operation. Bacteria flourishes between 20° C and 60° C, but with a constant rinse temperature of 84° C, Electrolux Professional’s green&clean machines eliminate any possible bacteria growth, ensuring ultimate hygiene and safety in the workplace. A perfect water treatment ensures spot-free glasses and cutlery and less scale build-up over time, and an automatic self-cleaning cycle prevents bacteria growth when the machine is not in use.

Efficient laundry solutions

Businesses also have the chance to improve water efficiency by choosing modern washing machines which have been specifically designed with the environment in mind.

Today’s Line 6000 washing machines consume as little water as possible, based on the weight of the laundry. It’s a feature Electrolux Professional has been able to improve since the first generation of this washer platform was launched in 2000: from 12.5 liters of water per kilo laundry, down to 6 liters per kilo laundry.

Driving further savings in future generation washing machines can be achieved with software development to ensure an even more accurate weighting measure, drum redesign to reduce water wastage and optimizing the control of water into the machines.

Final thoughts

This World Water Day 2022, it is important for businesses as much as individuals to take positive steps towards reducing water consumption. As a hospitality business, it is achievable by putting in place a water saving strategy with employees, carrying out a water audit and upgrading to advanced, eco-conscious appliances. It doesn’t have to mean a reduction in service or hygiene standards and can even help you save money as a business.

At Electrolux Professional we don’t settle for anything less than the highest quality for our customers, which is why we make sure that every part used in our equipment is tested and stands up to the long lifetime we design into all our products.
However, there can be some occasions where parts need replacing due to wear or damage.
Under these circumstances, do you know if your service provider supplies the genuine item or a substitute copy? The part might look the same, but only genuine spare parts are approved for use in our equipment.
Here we explain some of the benefits associated with insisting on genuine spare parts, and some of the reasons why a non-genuine or non-approved part shouldn’t be adopted in its place.

1) INCREASED SAFETY

Not only for employees, but also for operators and the product itself. Genuine OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts have been tested within specialized laboratories with their specific piece of equipment, in order to ensure its safe operation, thus safeguarding both the initial investment and the health and safety of your staff who will work with it.

2) CERTIFIED RELIABILITY AND PERFORMANCE

Your professional equipment is designed to remain robust, operate at full efficiency and last for many years with heavy-duty use, but without overusing energy and supplies – and with no unnecessary costs. Such reliability derives from fitting only genuine spare parts, accessories and consumables that – thanks to their durable nature – ensure it runs correctly as a cost-effective and high-performance solution, with an undoubtedly positive impact on your business.

3) EXTENDED LIFETIME

Professional equipment is the cornerstone of any hospitality and health care operation, hence keeping it active and maximizing its uptime is crucial for achieving a profitable business. Real OEM parts ensure appliances run exactly as they should and for longer, reducing the chances of unplanned downtime and the subsequent impact this can have on your business.

4) GUARANTEED WARRANTY PROTECTION

Using non-OEM parts can invalidate the manufacturer’s warranty on the equipment, so that the appliance may no longer be covered for future warranty claims. Moreover, as a customer you cannot claim back the cost of the part under the warranty since these non-genuine parts will not be covered by the manufacturer. Therefore, insisting on genuine spare parts, accessories and consumables ensures your warranty remains valid, covering you for future claims should they arise.

5) LOWER TOTAL COST

A non-genuine spare can offer a lower “up front” cost. This may give provide a short-term gain, but it takes no account of the total cost of ownership later on. A non-genuine can affect the equipment efficiency and operation, generating unseen costs that can arise in the longer period. Genuine spare parts are tested to fit and work properly, avoiding further breakdowns, are more likely to last longer, reducing downtime, further lost business opportunity and additional repair costs.

Thereafter a genuine OEM part can improve Return on Investment through longer lifetime, increased value, and more profit to your business.

On the other hand, original parts are tested to fit and work properly into the related machine, thus avoiding further breakdowns, and they are also more likely to last longer, reducing downtime and ensuring business continuity.
Therefore, an OEM part can improve your Return On Investment, allowing you to get more value through the years.

CONCLUSION

Safety, reliability, longevity, warranty protection and lower cost of ownership all add up to increased value to your business.

Be re-assured, insist on genuine, trusted parts for your equipment. Why settle for anything less?

Electrolux Professional is replacing Hydrofluorocarbon greenhouse gases (HFC-gases), in 18 different product families, offering solutions with more natural, climate-friendly green gas alternatives.

In May 2021, the first products using the most climate friendly CO2 natural refrigerant were launched on the market. The CO2 option is available for refrigerated cabinets, freezers, counters, Blast Chillers and several other refrigerated products.

These greener, more natural refrigerant gas alternatives are safer and offer an improved operational performance, as well as increased energy efficiency. This will contribute to a more sustainable offer for customers as well as a reduced emission impact from gases on the planet.

“It is really satisfying to see Electrolux Professional being a leader in our industry by replacing HFC gases in our products with more climate-friendly, refrigerant gases. We want to drive this change, making our customers more aware of the impact of harmful gases on our planet” says Niklas Lindsköld, Head of Sustainability at Electrolux Professional.

The professional kitchen is comprised of several different refrigerated products, which account for approximately 40 percent of the kitchen’s total energy consumption.

Therefore, the re-design of the cooling circuits in these solutions optimizes the natural gases, and as a result, an improved product performance and energy consumption in the cooling system is achieved. The new green gases have a cooling effect that is four times greater than HFCs. In addition, the insulations and foams of the new refrigerant solutions, are superior alternatives, offering greater safety and energy economics.

Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are highly potent greenhouse gases. They are present in many commercial applications that surround us in our daily life. As these gases escape and accumulate in the atmosphere, they increasingly contribute to climate change. Switching to more climate-friendly alternatives supports Electrolux Professional’s ambition to reduce our carbon footprint.

The resurgence of hospitality has been welcomed with open arms by both caterers and their customers alike. As consumers flock to their favourite cafés, bars and restaurants, the industry finally looks to be returning to pre-pandemic levels of demand amid an overwhelming appetite to dine out.

While this presents an opportunity for caterers to bounce back from the events of the past year, it will not be without its own difficulties. Job vacancies in UK hospitality have risen to the highest level since records began – owing to reports from industry bodies stating that one in five workers have left the sector during the pandemic.

As such, successfully managing rising demand with a reduced workforce will be the primary challenge facing the hospitality industry over the coming months. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to increase productivity on site without taking on new staff.

Investing in new technology, for example, is one way to guarantee an immediate boost to operational efficiency. With Electrolux Professional’s diverse product range, catering outfits of all shapes and sizes can take advantage of the benefits that new appliances can bring.

Front of House

Electrolux Professional’s range of front of house appliances allow caterers to streamline the production of snacks and hot or cold drinks, easing the burden on serving staff and reducing reliance on the main kitchen. SpeeDelight, for instance, is a comprehensive, dual-plate solution for the preparation of ‘grab and go’ snacks and light meals.

By incorporating three direct and indirect cooking technologies in one device, a singular member of staff can produce a range of sandwiches, wraps, paninis and more in record time. Moreover, thanks to the ‘has your back’ function, the lid will open automatically when the snack is ready, eliminating the risk of it burning during a busy service.

The newly launched LiberoPro line has been designed with flexibility in mind, boasting a modular frame capable of housing induction hobs and griddles, as well as shelves and refrigeration compartments. This allows the operator to tailor the equipment to the unique needs of their operation, ultimately creating the most efficient workflow possible.

When it comes to drinks, caterers should look no further than the Electrolux Professional bean to cup, solo and duo Tango ST & STP coffee machines. Their touchscreen interface allows even untrained staff to produce high-quality beverages with ease, eliminating the need to recruit skilled baristas. Capable of dispensing up to four drinks simultaneously, caterers can now achieve a substantial reduction in congestion by dealing with multiple orders at a time.

Back of House

The efficiency gains provided by Electrolux Professional appliances also extend to back of house equipment. This is important in circumstances where staff shortages are affecting the kitchen, but also for locations that are tight on space, and therefore need to maximise the utility of equipment footprint.

The SkyLine Premium Combi Oven range, for instance, is the culmination of over 40 years’ experience in developing high-performance oven technology. A touchscreen interface allows recipes to be selected from a pre-programmed list, while the T-Xcelerator control delivers improved cooking times without compromising on quality. The Dry-Xcelerator also enables the operator to switch between humid and dry cooking conditions in industry-leading times, reducing downtime between orders.

Perhaps SkyLine Premium’s most revolutionary feature is SkyDuo, which allows it to automatically communicate with its sister appliance, the SkyLine Blast Chiller. This feature ensures that only the exact quantity of ingredients are prepared at the required time, saving operators time and labour.

As with front of house, incorporating equipment that can fulfil multiple functions into a cooking suite is vital to increasing efficiency, as it reduces the go-between time on extended cooking processes. Within the Therma range, the Aqua Cooker is another device that can meet this criterion, functioning as a bain marie, pasta cooker and water bath, with the Free Cooking Top also able to be used for both direct and indirect cooking.

ProThermetic multi-functional Braising Pans also provide an effective method of cooking large quantities of high-quality food in short amounts of time, further reducing the congestion caused by large volumes of orders. The appliance is capable of braising, boiling, steaming and pressure cooking, and can achieve over 50% time savings on items such as meat, rice and vegetables.

Closing Thoughts

Here at Electrolux Professional, we understand that efficiency is the cornerstone of any successful catering operation. When recent skill shortages in the hospitality sector are factored in, productivity becomes an even more crucial factor in enabling operators to deal with resurgent demand.

When managing a reduced workforce, the most effective way of ensuring performance does not dip, is by opting for technology that can fulfil multiple roles, deliver decreased cooking times and reduce workplace congestion.

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE CLIMATE CHANGE AND DETERGENTS

In November 2021, we are approaching a pivotal moment in the fight against climate change with the 26th Conference of the Parties annual summit (COP26).

During the past COP21, held in Paris, every country agreed to work together to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees and aim for 1.5 degrees but, to adapt to the impacts of a changing climate and to make money available to deliver on these aims, there is still much more we have to do, and new actions should be taken.

The importance of “going green” is certainly a global affair, but our single actions and choices could have an impact and do the difference, as the “Fridays for Future” movement is trying to show us by asking local governments as well as every person to take actions on the climate crisis.

Looking at our work life and daily activities there are some important considerations we can do even when choosing the perfect laundry detergent range. If you are asking what the connection between the climate change and detergents is, the answer is easy: not all detergents are equal and formulated with the aim to reduce as much as possible the environmental impact.

Here below four simple tips to help you in the selection.

ECOFRIENDLY PRODUCTS

There are many products on the market claiming to be “green” but only the presence on the official ECOLABEL logo can give you the certainty that they respect tough environmental requirements for all relevant stages of the product’s life cycle.

This means that the Authority has evaluated the product with a global approach: from raw material selection to production processes, use and dosages, disposal and recycling, are all included in the assessment. Furthermore, product properties must ensure quality and durability). The EU Ecolabel, established in 1992, is also called the “EU Flower” and is one of the world’s most known eco-labels. The Nordic Swan is the equivalent of the EU Ecolabel, but it has a strong positioning among consumers in the Nordic region.

SAFETY

Being safe for garments but also for people is fundamental: cleaning effectiveness is what everyone is looking for, even if safety should not be ignored. If a detergent is delicate with textiles, it will preserve them from excessive wear and damage prolonging their life and again being ecofriendly. In any case, with safety you don’t have to think only of textiles, but also of the sensitive skin of people using detergents and wearing the textiles washed with them. Hypoallergenic products have been dermatologically tested and are products formulated to minimize the risk of sensitization.

EFFECTIVENESS AND FLEXIBILITY

Always remember that you will face different kind and level of soiling, thus having a range which can help you in all your daily work life will make everything easier. When checking effectiveness, keep in mind to verify the dosages and the suggested washing temperature. The lower the dosage and temperature are, the better is for the environment and for your pocket. Consider also the existence of a compatible spotting agent range to help solving most difficult cases instead of going through a repeated washing processes or having the need to increase temperatures or dosages in standard washing programs, losing the benefits we have already discussed.

HYGIENE

Consider products which can enhance hygiene due to specific chemical characteristics. Did you know that extreme pH values can inactivate coronavirus? Furthermore, high temperature exposure for a certain period of time can help that process. The combination of these characteristics can be useful and it will provide you, your customers and your staff the confidence that their well-being is safeguarded at all times.

CONCLUSION

With these simple considerations you will be able to select effective detergentsprotect the environmentprolonging your customers’ textiles lifespan, ensuring to use delicate products and meet the increasing high hygiene standards.

The selection of the proper detergents will not only make your work life easier but will help you being part of the green revolution that is taking place.

After the Adoption of the EU Single-Use Plastic Directive

Starting from July 3rd 2021, restrictions banned from the market single-use plastic products such as: cutlery, straws, stirrers, plates, polystyrene (EPS) cups and containers (largely used in the food industry), oxo-degradable plastic bags.

Such restrictions are included in the EU’s Single-Use Plastic Directive (SUPD), a piece of legislation aiming to reduce plastic pollution and requires all stakeholders operating in the plastic supply chain to be compliant with a series of measures, included product bans, design requirements, separate collection targets, and extended producer responsibility schemes.1

The Impact of EU’s Single-Use Plastic Directive on the Hospitality Business
Any plastic stocks can be sold until exhausted, then producers, cafés, restaurants, and other food businesses will need to switch to other greener solutions, like re-usable crockeries, or switch to items made of bamboo & cellulose or other biodegradable materials with a lower environmental impact.

All those businesses willing to embrace such a radical “green” change will find themselves facing a huge workload at peak times, since dishwashing requires time and manpower, with their related costs.

Why Taking-Up a Dishwasher to the Hospitality Businesses
The Single-Use Plastics Directive of the European Parliament highlights the importance of having valid dishwashing equipment, which becomes fundamental for Hospitality businesses such as bars, pubs, restaurants, and hotels to manage workloads quickly and efficiently -especially at peak times- in order to cope with five fundamental aspects.

1 – Business continuity
The eradication of a huge range of plastic goods from services will force those businesses not able to convert to the new, eco-sustainable materials, to a heavier workload during peak hours, since they will find themselves in washing a higher number of traditional plates and cutlery, thus slowing down activities. A dishwasher becomes then fundamental to ensure an optimal customer service and to reduce the workload of the staff that, in turn, can focus on more productive activities.

2 – Hygiene standards
In a historical period in which hygiene standards have become more and more challenging, traditional, manual, washing of dishes and glasses is no longer enough to ensure the proper removal of bacteria. Instead, the introduction of a dishwasher grants perfectly hygienic results and bacteria elimination, especially those capable of working at a constant 84 °C or higher rinse temperature, thus coping with the most challenging hygiene requirements.

3 – Environmental impact
Unlike what most people might think, automatic dishwashing, compared to the manual one, in addition of granting higher performance allows to considerably reduce environmental impact, since modern dishwashers grant low consumptions in energy and water, as well as products such as detergent and rinse aid. Last but not least, heat emissions are kept low, thus avoiding temperature rises within the working environment.

4 – Manpower costs
In addition to the savings in terms of energy, water, detergent and rinse aid, an efficient dishwasher is able to drastically reduce all costs related to manpower, since the duties traditionally carried out by the staff can be mostly eliminated. Moreover, dishwashers providing cold rinse feature give ready to use glasses immediately after washing, thus guaranteeing efficiency and less stress during daily operations.

5 – Need for small footprint
Modern dishwashers performance is not strictly related to their size, allowing them to be extremely efficient and reliable regardless their dimensions, thus making them perfectly suitable even for the smallest businesses, where elbow room is more challenging.

Conclusion
Having valid dishwashing equipment becomes fundamental for the Hospitality industry to ensure business continuity, a proper service, and meet the increasingly high hygiene standards, thus reducing the overall operational costs and granting low consumptions in energy, water, detergent and rinse aid, reducing the costs for customers.

In addition, from a social responsibility point of view, a dishwasher allows you to keep using traditional cutlery and thus to avoid not only the waste of washing products, but also of plastics, which paves the way for a more sustainable future.
